Three reasons to schedule a Seattle summer family photoshoot

Spring and fall are popular times of the year for family photoshoots, but I’m here to tell you summer is another great option.

If you usually have your family photos taken in the fall and are considering a different season for variety, or if your schedule gets packed in the fall, or worse, you often skip family photos because you aren’t able to fit them in at the end of year, consider planning ahead and booking a summer family session. Read on for three reasons a summer family photoshoot is a no brainer!

The weather for a summer family photoshoot will be on your side.

As a Seattle family photographer, I can tell you we only have a few months out of the year when the chance for rain is slim. Many people love spring and/or fall photos, but having to reschedule your session (and finding another date that works for your spouse and around kids’ activities) can be frustrating.

Summer months (June, July and August) have the most predictable, sunny weather in Seattle. With lovely, late night sunsets and warm weather, what’s not to love?

Figuring out what to wear is simpler.

They say, there is no bad weather, only poor clothing choices. Now, while that may be true, it’s really nice not to have to worry about all the “what ifs”. You can shed the extra layers and leave your rain boots at home during summer. Suddenly choosing outfits for your family photo session feels a little easier and carefree.

Kids can wear shorts or a summer dress and slip-on shoes (or even go barefoot), and typically, there is less arguing about how all those clothes fit and feel because there aren’t so many layers required.

Do yourself a favor, and keep the decision making to a minimum, with simple outfits that reflect the carefree feeling of summer. Bonus! Short sleeves or sleeveless tops and shorts/skirts allow you to show off that coveted sun-kissed skin or tan you worked so hard on.

Summer family schedules are less frenzied.

Families are busier than ever these days, but schools, sports, and clubs generally take a break in the summer. This means family schedules have more flexibility and parents aren’t having to rush from one thing to the next.

With the later sunset hours (why sessions begin one hour before sunset), parents have time to get off work during the week and still fit in a family session in the evening. This leaves weekends free for other fun activities.

Photographers also have more flexibility in their schedules due to less demand in the summer.

If you choose to schedule your family session in the summer this year, pat yourself on the back for choosing a season with the best weather, most availability in scheduling, and a carefree feeling that will lead to smiles all around.
