5 Reasons to Consider a Spring Family Session
Although fall is one of the most popular times of the year for family photo sessions (photographer’s “busy season”), there are a few great reasons to consider spring or summer for your next family photo shoot.
More Session Availability with Spring Family Photo Sessions
Between school activities, extracurriculars, holiday planning, and family get-togethers, fall keeps us on our toes and our calendars packed. It’s a busy time for all. If you often find yourself wondering how you are going to fit one more thing into the family schedule, consider another time of the year for your family photos. You will feel more relaxed and in the moment if you choose a time when you aren’t already stressed from overcommitment.
With longer days, spring and summer sessions have a laid-back vibe, and you’ll often find more availability and flexibility in your photographer’s schedule. This makes it easier to find a session date that works well for your family. Win, win!
Spring Photo Sessions Mean Later Hours
If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you know the sun sets early in the fall (like 4pm)! This can make getting to a family session an hour before sunset difficult when you have little ones who also need to eat dinner or you or your spouse has to rush home from work.
April/May spring sessions generally start in the 7pm hour, and June/July around 7:30-8pm. This may sound late, but honestly can work great for children. I suggest families have dinner beforehand and head to their session with bellies full and energy to burn. Kids love knowing they get to go outside after dinner and staying up a little past their bedtime is exciting stuff!
Variety In Your Family Photos
If you traditionally schedule your family photos at the same time of the year every year, considering a different season can be fun and add variety to the images adorning your walls.
When we look at pictures of ourselves with sun kissed skin or hanging out by the water, we are reminded of summer vacations and longer, warmer days when life feels light and carefree. What a beautiful sight and uplifting reminder to have displayed in your home during those dark drizzly days of winter!
Easy Breezy Clothing for Spring Family Photo Sessions
In spring we get to shed jackets, boots, mittens, and beanies, and rejoice in the warmth of the season. Planning your outfits for spring or summer seems easier, simply because there aren’t so many layers to coordinate.
Little girls look adorable in a one piece romper or sundress and boys love the freedom of movement that comes with shorts. Seeing a scraped or bandaged knee and the plump wrists of our children are tender visuals that remind us childhood is precious and also fleeting. These are treasures to be captured, not bundled up and hidden away due to cold weather.
There’s No Time Like The Present
If you missed fall family photos or you are just feeling grateful for the upcoming spring/summer season of tall grass and dandelions, don’t wait six to nine months to schedule a family session. Every season of life is worth capturing and celebrating. Why put off til later what you can do today?
